Winter Solstice and the holidays

Winter Solstice is the longest night of the year, the time when the daylight hours are the shortest. This is a time of year for many different holidays traditions, including Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Yule, Saturnalia, and the Rural Dionysia. For even more traditions, read this page on Wikipedia.

I have two free reads, one that was released yesterday and another that will be coming soon, about vampires celebrating the Winter Solstice. It makes sense, right? Obviously in the paranormal universes where vampires can't go out during the day, they must seriously live it up on the longest night of the year! :D

You can access those stories here:

What holiday stories do you enjoy best? Are there any holiday stories released or about to be released which you're looking forward to reading? What is your take on holidays stories released within the speculative genres of fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal?

I've always been a fan of the solstices and the equinoxes. I don't know why, but I like the extremes of the solstices and the balance of the equinoxes. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to read your stories. I'm so far behind on life in general, I am not sure I even woke up today. ;)

Anthony, you speak my mind on both sets--I honor them all too. :)

I hear ya on free time. Omgs, where did mine go, lol?

Savannah and Angie, I'm a huge paranormal fan myself. And I love originality!

What with all the magical traditions woven into our winter celebrations, or the fact that many at least consider it a figuratively "magical" time of year, why not paranormal or fantasy holiday stories? :D

I love the idea of vamps living it up on the longest night of the year. lol Now if I could just find a really cute vamp to live it up with.

Everyone needs a hot vamp to snuggle up with on a cold night. ;)

Here's the answers to your questions! LOL!

What holiday stories do you enjoy best? I love Christmas as I have my own elves to play with. :-) And while this isn't really considered a holiday by many, I just love the Summer Solstice since I was born that day. I've written stories about it as well.

Are there any holiday stories released or about to be released which you're looking forward to reading? Not right now as this time of year I am really into writing my own stories.

What is your take on holidays stories released within the speculative genres of fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal? I love them. I love everything about them. I usually don't get to read them until January and then I peruse places like eHarlequin, Fictionwise and my own epublishers, eXtasy Books, Loose Id, Whiskey Creek and Red Rose Press, for my holiday reading.

Thanks for such a fun blog, Adrianne. I like visiting you! LOL!

Hey Lynn! Actually the Summer Solstice is honored by a number of pagans, including yours truly. :) I honor Apollo on the Summer Solstice and Dionysos on the Winter Solstice.

I so rarely get to see pagan holidays other than Samhain in fiction, and typically when I do, it's not frightfully accurate but instead is very fanciful. I think there's something to be said for combining both reality and fantastical elements.

Thanks for commenting, and glad you enjoyed my post! :)

I really enjoy paranormal stories.

I got married on winter solace, maybe that's why I've been married so long? 29 years this 12-21-08.

We have a sensitivity to nature and we realize there is more "out there" than meets the eye. I think this is why we like paranormal. our minds are open to more than one possibility and a myriad of subtle nuances that make up the world.
